But the story is more than just numbers. The change to digital communication has allowed corporations and organizations to bypass the traditional media gatekeepers and tell their story directly to the public in a way they never could before.

Do you get emails from political candidates you’ve given money to? Have you supported a cause on Facebook? Shared a photo about a product or an event? These are just a few examples of direct PR-driven communication. While there are many tools to measure page views and visitors, the absolute number of readers is probably the worst measure because it’s a false idol. Feedburner subscribers, retweets, time on site aren’t much better because they don’t measure the true performance of a blog - what fraction of a target audience the blog reaches.

In order for content marketing and blogs to be effective, the writing must have a target audience in mind. By focusing on that audience, bloggers build a brand in a scalable and cost-effective way. So engaging the very highest fractions of that audience possible is the best metric of success.

For example, this blog targets startup founders, managers and employees. I journal my education and thoughts in the hopes that others benefit from these learnings. In exchange, I’m trying to build recognition within the startup ecosystem. Each morning, I’d like to log into an analytics dashboard that showed me the fraction of entrepreneurs and startup employees I reached the day before. And ideally, which content resonated and why. Alas, there is no such tool….

See on linkedin.com

Facebook wants to be your new ‘personalized newspaper’

See on Scoop.it - Internet Marketing method

Facebook revealed the revamped version of its News Feed on Thursday.
The goal of the redesign is to reduce clutter and deliver stories in a newspaper-like for

See on examiner.com

40 Entertaining Infographics Plus Some Tips On Creating Your Own Using Photoshop

See on Scoop.it - Internet Marketing method

Infographics are popular. Here’s one from Wikimotive and Soshable!

Long tail keywords are becoming a very integral part of small business SEO. Essentially, long tail keywords are longer (duh!) and more specific keywords. These keywords are less common than short keywords individually, but when taken as a whole, they account for the majority of searches and search-driven traffic. There are a few large benefits to long tail keywords, and they shouldn’t be overlooked by marketers in any industry.

The main benefit of long tail keywords is that they’re so specific. This means that even though you get less searches per term, the searches you DO get will be more targeted, and thus more readily convertible. Additionally, because these long tail keywords aren’t as commonly seen on analytics tools, they are generally less competitive for both organic and paid search marketing.

The average keyword people target is called a “head” keyword. These keywords are usually about 10-25 characters in length, any shorter and they tend to be too general and there isn’t much benefit (there are always exceptions). Long tail keywords are about 26-40 characters in length, any longer and you just don’t see much search volume….

See on soshable.com
